For women age 40 or over—and even younger for those with certain risk factors—the annual screening mammogram remains the standard in providing the potentially lifesaving benefit of early detection of breast cancer. To make these vital screenings as conveniently accessible as possible, the St. Luke’s network offers mammograms at numerous facilities.
In-depth diagnostic follow-up exams, when needed after a suspicious or inconclusive mammogram, are performed in imaging centers consolidating high-end breast diagnostic technology and expertise into one location: the Regional Breast Centers. One is located in Center Valley serving the Lehigh Valley and the other in Bartonville, serving Monroe county, the Poconos and surrounding areas.
Our hub and spoke model has allowed for tremendous benefits to our patients, including screening exams available close to home and same day biopsies during a diagnostic workup. Image-guided biopsies are performed at the Regional Breast Centers, allowing breast imagers to work under one roof in a collaborative environment surrounded by a staff of breast health care nurses along with expert mammography and ultrasound technologists. All colleagues expertly guide patients through the process.
Using the latest GE Senographe digital mammography and Logiq E10 ultrasound equipment, the Regional Breast Center is unsurpassed in imaging quality. An active breast MRI program and high-volume breast biopsy schedule are all factors in our ACR Center of Excellence designation. Recent areas of program development have included an abbreviated breast MRI screening program, SaviScout reflector placement for localization and rapid diagnostic program.
